Bamberg is located on the "seven hills" on the river Regnitz, which flows into Main, and is a part of the federal state of Bavaria. In the Middle Ages for Bamberg, the name of "German Rome" was fixed, and now it is one of the few ancient cities in Germany that was not completely destroyed during the Second World War. Since 1993, the historical heritage of the city of kings and bishops is the property of UNESCO.

How to get to Bamberg
Airport Bamberg Breitenau Airfield takes predominantly charter flights. The larger airports are located in Frankfurt, Munich and Nuremberg. From Nuremberg to Bamberg 1, 5 hours by car or about an hour by train.

Transportation

Climate
The climate is moderate sea with cool winters and warm summers. The coldest months are from December to February, when the temperature drops below 0, the warmest are July-August, with temperatures of up to 23 degrees.

There are many small shops and boutiques in the Old Town. The main shopping areas are Gruner Markt and Austrasse near Maximiliansplatz Square
In August the Old Town turns into one huge antique market, and in December the Christmas market opens on Maximiliansplatz
Bamberg Beer and Brewery
In Bamberg, there are as many as 10 breweries (for example, Schlenkerla and Spezial), and even more 80 around the city, most of which have their own pubs, where you can enjoy not only the taste of beer, but also traditional local dishes. In Bamberg, there are a lot of beer brews where the special Rauchbier beer is dark red and different from the usual beer.
Entertainment, excursions and attractions of Bamberg
Altenburg Fortress, towering on one of the seven hills of Bamberg at an altitude of 386 meters above sea level, visible from many points of the city, formerly served as a refuge for refugees. The residence of the prince-bishop of the 17th-18th centuries is also interesting. with magnificent gardens and stunning views of the city.
Bamberg Cathedral, a model of Romanesque architecture, whose construction began in 1004, is one of the seven imperial cathedrals of Germany. The walls of the cathedral are occupied by Pope Clement II, the only pope buried in Germany, as well as the remains of Henry the Blessed and the first King of Germany from the dynasty of Stauffen Konrad III.
Old Town Hall, the first mention of which dates back to 1386, was built in the Gothic style on the artificially created sharp on the river Regnitz. Much later, in the 18th century, the architecture of the tower was supplemented with elements in the style of baroque and rococo. A museum with a collection of porcelain is now open to visitors
The basilica of fourteen saints' assistants, Vierzehnheiligen, located in Bad Staffelstein, a suburb of Bamberg, is an excellent example of Bavarian rococo. Other interesting churches in terms of architecture are the Romanesque churches of Jakobskirche 11th c. and Michaelskirche 12th century, as well as the Gothic Marienkirche church of the 14th century
Museums
The Historisches Museum is located on Domplatz 7 and is open to visitors from April to May. It is worth to visit the treasury of the cathedral Diozesanmuseum, designed by Balthasar Neumann. A Bavarian State Gallery Bayerische Staatsgalerie keeps a collection of paintings from the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Baroque.
Also interesting is the Brewery Museum (Brauereimuseum), located in the basement of the Benedictine monastery. The museum collection tells about the history of brewing, starting from 1122, as well as the process of making beer, in particular Rauchbier beer. The museum is located on the hill Michaelsberg 10f and is open to visitors from April to October
Events
Folk Festival [Sandkerwa, the most famous and one of the largest street festivals not only of Bamberg, but of all Franconia. Every year during the five days of August the streets of the city are flooded with thousands of visitors, local beer is poured by the river.
