The second largest island of the Cycladic archipelago is also considered one of the most beautiful. And it's really like that: Andros is amazed and falls in love with himself from the first time. Is it possible to remain indifferent to such beauty, when the azure sea, crashing into the foam on the rocky coast, abruptly turns into a landscape from the necklace of mountain chains? All this splendor is diluted with emerald olive and fig valleys, citrus groves and vineyards

The similarity to the rest of the Cycladic islands is expressed here even in the life of towns: for example, the old kind geranium, which here is put not only on cozy window sills, but along roads , thus creating an indescribable sense of a flower street.

How to get here

About 15-20 km from Athens airport is the city and the large sea port of Rafina - from there ferries and high-speed vessels (only in summer) to Andros. On the road no more than two hours. In summer, ferries from Piraeus also often go.

About 10 km Separate Andros from the beautiful island of Eweya and no more than 2 km from Tinos - both land areas can easily be visited by ferry. In general, many flights are sent from Andros to the other islands of the Cyclades archipelago during the season.

It is worth thinking about the car for rent - it can be taken both at the Athens airport upon arrival and on Andros. In any case, traveling around the island by car is a very good idea: there are many sights here, they are scattered all around Andros, and it will be easier to inspect them, combining with bathing on this or that beach.

Cuisine

Traditional Greek cuisine is the basis of the menu of all local restaurants, but there are also gastronomic "chips" on Andros. For example, surprisingly tasty and fragrant puff pastry with fresh herbs and cheese "kaltsunya", air biscuits from almonds "amygdalot" or jam "glic kultal", which is served in an elegant rosette with a glass of cold water - that's how it is eaten, no there are teas of saucers!

Beaches

The most popular resort on the island is just 8 km south of the main port of Andros - it's Batsion (Batsion, Batsi). There are a lot of hotels, taverns and bars for every taste, which snug around the beautiful natural harbor. The local beaches are sandy, clean, but often crowded, especially at the height of the season.

If the city of Andros is the second port of the island, then Gavrio is its main sea gate.

For those who prefer relative peace and solitude, one can advise a small resort Ormos (Ormos Korthiou). Its large bay with a long modern esplanade is isolated from the rest of Andros by a mountain range, so the beaches here are cleaner and freer. Simple lazy bathers should go to the north of the bay, to the beach of Grias-Pidima. But the south of the resort is a mecca of windsurfers, there is a piece of coast called Kanduni.

Wonderful beaches can be found in the villages of Nim-Boryo, Paraporti, in the bay of Corti or Vitali.
