Traditional Greek cuisine is the basis of the menu of all local restaurants, but there are also gastronomic "chips" on Andros. Beaches
The most popular resort on the island is just 8 km south of the main port of Andros - it's Batsion (Batsion, Batsi). There are a lot of hotels, taverns and bars for every taste, which snug around the beautiful natural harbor. The local beaches are sandy, clean, but often crowded, especially at the height of the season.
For those who prefer relative peace and solitude, one can advise a small resort Ormos (Ormos Korthiou). Its large bay with a long modern esplanade is isolated from the rest of Andros by a mountain range, so the beaches here are cleaner and freer. Simple lazy bathers should go to the north of the bay, to the beach of Grias-Pidima. But the south of the resort is a mecca of windsurfers, there is a piece of coast called Kanduni.

If Andros is the second port of the island, then Gavrio is its main sea gate. Here, the attention of tourists is attracted by the castle of St. Peter (Agios Petros). To the east of it lies the ancient village of Ayios Petros with an amazing cylindrical tower made of stone 20 meters high. It was built in the 5-4 centuries BC. and is believed to have been associated with ancient iron mines, whose ruins can still be discerned down the slope.
The ancient capital of the island - the city of Paleopolis (Paleopoli) - definitely deserves the status of a "must-visit". Here is the miniature Historical Museum (opening hours: Tues-Sun 8: 30-15: 00, free visit), which is famous for its worthy collection of marble sculptures, coins and other items found at local excavations
Finally, the most beautiful monastery of Andros is Panayya-Panakradu, which was founded around 961. Its massive walls hide the ancient church with wonderful frescos and all one monk.
