Add a review about the Zakynthos Marine Reserve

The Greek island of Zakynthos is often called "turtle". The amazing climate and convenient location made this small stretch of land attractive for the giant sea turtles of a carriage-coach. To preserve the rare species, the Marine Reserve was created here in 1999. This is an entire ecosystem formed from the sand dunes of the beaches of Laganas, Limni Keri, Kalamaki and a number of small islands.

Relict animals have chosen the warm waters of the Ionian Sea millions of years ago. Turtles are selected on land in the summer months to lay eggs. To watch them, you can rent yachts with a transparent bottom and make a tour of the picturesque Laganas Bay. The pride of the island of Zakynthos is carefully protected by ecologists and the state - fishing is prohibited here.

In addition to the carette-carret turtles, seals-monks, dolphins, iguanas, porcupines and a variety of strange birds live in the Marine Park.

The marine reserve covers an area of 13.5 hectares, the territory is divided into three zones. In addition to the rarest representatives of the animal world, in this part of Greece there is an oceanic poseidonia and several other species of plants that are on the verge of extinction.
