Add a comment about the Enos National Park

Despite the fact that Kefalonia is a small island, the national park here takes a rather large area . This is explained by the fact that most of the island's area is a mountain of the same name, high enough for such a baby . @ The height of the Enos mountain, the largest not only on the island, but also on the whole archipelago, exceeds 1600 meters, and its flora with fauna is interesting and often endemic. . Specific dark turquoise fir trees unique for Greece . grow here According to the epic, it was from them that he built his and the Odyssey vessels . Thanks to these trees that cover the mountain almost entirely, the slopes of Enos seem from afar to seem almost black . At the top of Enos, once stood the temple of Zeus of Aionis, and today, naturally, the main island weather station and the radio tower .

@ There are no tents with hot dogs and Coca-Cola in the national park: you need to take care of water and food yourself and in advance.

In addition to the Christmas trees in Enos, you can see a lot of wildflowers, violets and even orchids . Among the representatives Animal species - a specific kind of wild horse , which, however, is not so easy to see . There are several pedestrian routes of different difficulty levels in Enos which take from one and a half hours to almost the whole day . The public area of the national park is located no higher than 1300 meters above sea level, so the location here does not cause any inconvenience - with the exception of the possibility of freezing cold even in the hottest season . There are enough places for camping, arbours and glades in the territory to become a camp . True, what is not here is a tent with hot dogs and Coca-Cola: real tourists should be able to take care of food themselves .

Do not go to Enos easily dressed. It's quite cold, windy and humid because of low-creeping clouds.

You can climb into the national park in one of several ways: from the east, from Poros, from the north from Arginia or Simolata or, most conveniently, from the fork in the very center of the island, on the highway between Sami and Argostoli. This road to Enos is quite picturesque in itself: along the way, travelers pass the whole valleys of sharp black cypresses, similar to dragon teeth, and two good viewing platforms. The same highway is a favorite route for fans of two-wheelers: bikers and cyclists

According to Enos on a motorcycle
If you do not plan to spend on Enos for a long time, but just want to go there and back, it will be convenient to combine the trip there with a visit Monastery of St. Gerasimus: the route from there to the entrance to the National Park makes a decent detour, but the total length of the route along the main highway does not exceed 13 kilometers. Lifting is quite simple even for a small-car A-class
At the top of Enos, there are suitable places for photographing, but getting to them is not so simple: the slopes of the mountain are too thick with spruce, among which there are no gaps. If you see a suitable observation deck on the highway and want to get good shots, stop.
