Sylt - a miniature "anchor" of Germany, which keeps the entire country tied up. Making sure of this is easy: just look at the map of the island, where a small piece of land with the help of a dam bravely attached to the mainland in the north of the country, in the neighborhood with Denmark. Do not tear yourself away from the open sea, perhaps, only the prayers of local residents and tourists help-it's too beautiful for Zult to simply give it to the sea ....
Main chips of Sylt - cool even in summer water, huge oysters and abundance of celebrities . Well, the first and explain not costs - the North Sea does not pamper its fans with temperatures above 18-20 degrees . What, apparently, has a good effect on the oyster breeding industry . You can try this kind of sea reptile, which reaches 80 grams per piece, in every island restaurant; look for the menu item "Silter Royal" . We do not know whether the oysters or those very dunes with lighthouses attract visitors of famous people, but this is an indisputable fact: every summer, crowds of celebrities and photographers from the "yellow" press .
How to get there
On the island there is a small airport that accepts internal flights from almost all Germany - at least from Berlin, Dusseldorf, Cologne and Stuttgart. Tourists from Russia are easiest to fly to Hamburg, where they change to a special train SyltShuttle, which runs along the dam to the capital of Sylt Westerland (on the way about 3 hours, the fare is around 40 euros).
Do not drive by your own car on the dam - there is only a railway track laid, so if you do not want to throw your "iron horse", look for the town of Niebüll near the Danish border. There you can load the car for a train (special trailer) for 90 EUR in two directions. Pursing such cars often, almost once per hour, so that you do not need to book in advance. An alternative to the train is to take a ferry from Rømø Island in Denmark (one way fare per person / car € 6/40).

Transportation
By Zulta an extensive network of bus routes is laid, so that problems will not arise from one end of the island to another. On the two main routes Line 1 (Westerland-Wennigstedt-Kampen-List) and Line 2 (Westerland-Rantum-Hernum), buses run every 20 minutes throughout the day. The fare depends on the number of zones that need to be driven (from 1, 5 to 6 euros)
Resorts and beaches
As already mentioned above, Westerland is the administrative center and the capital of the island of Sylt (and, by the way, the only town with a city status). During the summer, parties here do not end, it seems, never. There are discotheques, nightclubs, restaurants and casinos, where the public likes to rest the rich and pathos. Knowingly, you see, Westerland got the nickname "German Beverly Hills"? By the way, the fashion for rest here has lasted 150 years - the German aristocracy has been stretching here since the middle of the 19th century.
Only 3 km away from the capital is Wenigstedt, the place where they go just for rest. The length of the local coastline is already 2 km, and the width of the sand zone is more than 100 meters. Space is enough for surfers who like to rest here, and mere mortals. Of course, nightclubs and restaurants are also not spared this resort, but not in such a frenzied amount as in Westerland. Fans of a quiet wellness getaway will find a couple of family spas with massage and baths.
Those who prefer to spend time on the beach are almost alone, undoubtedly will like Rantum. It is located on a narrow isthmus, the width of which in some places is 550 meters
Hernum dunes will give a specific pleasure to rest. In fact, the beaches here do not differ much from the rest of the island, just this place has its own legend. Allegedly, at night local dunes crawl out drowned and ignite until dawn with witches on the Sabbaths. In addition to amusing tales, Hernum is interesting with a 33-meter lighthouse and a modernist church, in architecture resembling a white sail. For tourists and a hotel with 5 stars on the facade, and a spa, and a yacht club, and golf, and a restaurant, of course.
Finally, Kampen. This village is a fountain for those employees of the "yellow" press who come here for hot pictures. After all, it is in Kampen that the lion's share of famous media people resides in Germany. Fashionable villas, expensive cars, beautiful women and the main place of party - the café Kupferkanne, where, if lucky, you can see 5-6 representatives of the powerful.
Entertainments, excursions and attractions
With the function of the excursion component on Zulte, the village of Kaitum, a living history of the island, is remarkably well managed. Here you can see the houses, whose age has already passed for a couple of hundred centuries. There are also ancient churches, and mills, and Frisian buildings with thatched roofs. Here is also the church of St. Severin of the 13th century - the most beautiful church of Syltas.
Also noteworthy is the Monument to the wind in Westerland, located strictly opposite the station building. It not only emphasizes the peculiarity of the climate of Syltas (windy, as it is easy to guess), but also represents a wonderful site for funny photos. The huge green figures of people seemed to lean from a strong wind, and their hair fluttering in bizarre hairstyles after them. (It's still a sight, I must say.)
Surfing
Surfing on Zulta is specific, but interesting. The main local counter is svele, that is, waves that appear on the sea surface in the absence of a direct wind, they reach 50 meters in length and are not very powerful. Search for them in the west of the island, and get there - by car through the dunes. Near the surf spot there is also a hostel. A thick wetsuit is mandatory.
