The Saronic Gulf (Saronicos), the largest in the Aegean Sea, lies east of the Isthmus Isthmus, between Attica and the Peloponnese. On its shores is the largest port of Greece Piraeus, as well as the major Greek cities of Megara, Eleusis and Epidaurus.
The largest islands of the Saronic Gulf are Salamis, Aegina, Angistri and Poros. The Hydra and Dokos Islands, lying to the south of the Peloponnese, also enter the archipelago of the Saronic Islands, although they are not in the Saronic, but in the Argolide Gulf. The farthest island from the archipelago is Spetses.

How to get
There is a regular ferry service between the Saronic Islands and Piraeus, as well as the Peloponnese. Two times faster can be reached by high-speed catamarans, which not so long ago began to run from the port of Piraeus. Due to its proximity to the mainland, the Argosaronic Islands have become a favorite weekend destination for metropolitan residents
The main resorts of the Saronic Gulf Islands
- Salamis is the most populous of the islands of the Saronic Gulf. It is easy to get here in a quarter of an hour from the village of Perama in Attica to the village of Palukia
- South of Salamina lies the picturesque Aegina, famous for its beaches, wonderful nature and the temple of Afei. Before Aegina, the ferry leaves from Piraeus, on the way one hour
- Further south, along the shores of the Peloponnese is the beautiful Poros, behind it - famous for its traditional architecture Hydra
- At the entrance to Argolide Bay lies the green island of Spetses, to which you can to swim on the ship from Piraeus in four hours. This island is famous among fans of the famous writer John Fowles, since the action of one of his novels, "Magus", occurs just on this island (the fictional island of Fraxos). In summer, Spetses can go to the islands of Monemvasia, Kitira and Nafplion, the main city of the Argolida region.
In addition to the main islands, there are other smaller islands in the bay, the number of which, together with the sea cliffs, is more than 100. Only 11 of them are inhabited.
