Not far from Matala there is another beach called Red Beach. Only the most hardy tourists can get to it: going down the arrows to a small cove with sand of blood color from sandstone, you understand that you compete with goats, which on Crete can easily stand on vertical rocks.

You need to follow the arrows that are drawn on the scattered stones. Quite a difficult task - to find in the city of Matala the Red Beach sign indicating the beginning of the road. In the middle the road is blocked by a gate, it has to be pushed: it will come out, but for goats this pleasure is unattainable - therefore you will have to go further without their support.

The road itself will take 40 minutes of your time: part of the way to overcome in the sun without a single tree . But, going down to the bay, you can look afar, towards Africa, and be surprised by the red sand . A small part of the beach is sunbeds and umbrellas, immediately offer refreshments and there is garbage tank . The owner of the beach issues umbrellas for 2 EUR and a deckchair for 2 EUR, and he can also get water . The best food to take with you in advance: a bottle of mineral water is the maximum that there is on the beach . @ Another detail: the nudists bathe at the rock, so it's worth taking a walk to the beach, taking into account this feature .

What is caused by this color of sand is not entirely clear, and when returning back it is worth remembering one feature - all your descent now turns into an upsurge, so you need to be careful. There are no water entertainments and rent of swimming equipment, as well as attractions on the beach, this place is not suitable for children either, since they will have to carry on themselves, and they certainly will not stand the way back - but for adults ready to spend several hours away from crowded beaches, the place is just perfect.
