In Belarus there are several unique monuments, which are called Borisov stones. These are hefty boulders with broken inscriptions and crosses. Most often on the stone is carved the text "Remember Lord your slave, Boris son of Ginville ...". The stones are named after the Polotsk prince Boris, who reigned in the 12th century. In their country there were only 4 pieces. One of them is in Polotsk

How these stones appeared, for whatever reason - is still unknown. Some experts believe that in this way in ancient times marked the routes of trade routes. Others are sure that these were the sacred stones of the pagans, and the cross was knocked out after the adoption of Orthodoxy.
